5 Top Things To Do In The Barossa
Got a couple of days in the Barossa but not sure where to start? Whether you’re on your first trip to the region or perhaps haven’t visited for a while, we’ve put together our top five must-do experiences.
Seppeltsfield
This iconic Barossa Beauty is, without a doubt, one of the best wine tourism experiences in the country. Take a guided tour and explore the estate’s historic buildings and cellars, home to the Centennial Collection – an unbroken line of Tawny from 1878 to the current year, before settling in for a long lunch at Fino. Afterwards, stock up on all-natural handmade skin and body care at Vasse Virgin Barossa, or check out the artists at work at JamFactory. There are also picnic grounds, Segway tours and a kiosk on the estate.
Barossa Farmers Market
Held every Saturday morning from 7.30am to 11.30am in the Vintners Sheds, Angaston, this is a great place to stock up on Barossa produce and meet the locals. Grab a delicious Barossa Farmers Market Burger and stroll the 50-plus stallholders selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to poultry, lamb and venison – not to mention smallgoods, olive oil and baked goods.
Jacob’s Creek
No trip to the Barossa is complete without a visit to the home of Jacob’s Creek – the brand that took Australian wine to the world in the 1980s. There’s an excellent cellar door that offers masterclasses and food-matching experiences, plus Our Table restaurant which specialises in local produce. You can even stay in William Jacob’s original 19th century settler’s cottage which, coincidentally, is managed by Barossa Shiraz Estate. And, yes, there is a real Jacob’s Creek, and it’s a great photo spot.
Maggie Beer’s Farm Shop
A visit to Maggie’s Nuriootpa farm shop is a must for all foodies. You can sample her full range of products, watch daily demonstrations of how to use ingredients like verjuice and vino cotto, or enjoy lunch in her daughter Elli’s Farm Eatery restaurant. Open daily from 10.30am to 5pm.
Stage 1 of the trail runs right past Barossa Shiraz Estate so why not take advantage of our bike hire and enjoy the leisurely 14-kilometre ride to Tanunda. Set against the backdrop of the Barossa Ranges, the trail passes towering gum trees, sweeping vineyards and plenty of cellar doors, including Jacob’s Creek. Enthusiastic riders can continue on to Nuriootpa.
